Los primeros elementos de medición de presiones registraban un solo punto de presión. Los instrumentos de medición continua de presión fueron introducidos en 1930. El método de Recobro en Hidrología (análogo al método de Horner) fue introducido por Theis3 en 1935. En 1937, Muskat 4 presentó un método para determinar presión estática P del área de drenaje en pozos petroleros, es un método semilog de ensayo y error. En 1949, Van Everdingen y Hurst5, presentaron un estudio clásico de análisis de pruebas de pozos, y desarrollaron una solución al problema pozo-yacimiento con efecto de llene, e introdujeron la primera Curva Tipo.

Los pozos pueden tener múltiples ramas, lo que permite que un solo pozo drene una mayor porción de la formación o que tenga contacto con una serie de regiones productivas aisladas. Los sensores de fondo de pozo pueden monitorear las condiciones—temperatura, presión, densidad, velocidad de flujo y fracciones de agua y gas—en lugares seleccionados dentro del pozo, mientras que los dispositivos de control de flujo activados desde la superficie pueden reducir progresivamente o bloquear la producción de las áreas de alto corte de agua o de alta relación gas-petróleo (RGP). En la familia de simuladores de yacimientos ECLIPSE, se ha incorporado la opción de pozo de múltiples segmentos (MSW, por sus siglas en inglés), para ayudar a modelar las condiciones en estos tipos de pozo.

Introduction to Well Testing



Every hydrocarbon bearing reservoir is a valuable asset. To ensure the best possible return, not just in terms of the commercial factors, although this is clearly the driving factor, it is important to understand as much as possible about the reservoir. This always presents a conceptual problem as we cannot physically see the reservoir in question. Fortunately the pioneering instinct and inquisitive minds of mankind have developed some ingenious techniques to help gain valuable data which in turn develops a descriptive picture or simulated model of the reservoir in question. Techniques, such as; Seismic Data Acquisition, Electric Line Logging, Core Analysis, PVT Analysis, and Well Testing to name a few have become sciences within themselves and all produce valuable data which help build the simulated reservoir model and thus help in developing the most cost effective strategy to manage the asset.

Modern Well Test Analysis


During a well test, the response of a reservoir to changing production (or injection) conditions is monitored. Since the response is, to a greater or lesser degree, characteristic of the properties of the reservoir, it is possible in many cases to infer reservoir properties from the response. Well test interpretation is therefore an inverse problem in that model parameters are inferred by analyzing model response to a given input.

In most cases of well testing, the reservoir response that is measured is the pressure response. Hence in many cases well test analysis is synonymous with pressure transient analysis. The pressure transient is due to changes in production or injection of fluids, hence we treat the flow rate transient as input and the pressure transient as output.
